The hottest show on MTV celebrates pregnancy for teens who are just learning the birds and the bees, which beckons the question – is everyone suited to be a parent of a new humanoid life form?
iCub is a working tot-bot that resembles a 3 1/2 year old child. iCub can sit up, crawl, play drums and even interact with its creators. The purpose of iCub is to study the cognitive development of the young robot as it learns from her surroundings. This project was originally founded by the European Commission a through Unit E5 “Cognitive Systems, Interaction & Robotics”. The open study now has 20 laboratories worldwide interacting with the robot and her 53 motors that power the head, arms & hands, waist, and legs. Young Victoria (that’s her name, just like Posh) is able to see and hear, with a sense of proprioception (body configuration) and movement (using accelerometers and gyroscopes). The scientists are currently working diligently to improve her sense of touch, so it can give its mommies a hug.
This is an amazing breakthrough in technology that in five years time has shown incredible development and created global scientific collaboration. This could also be a saving grace to Hollywood’s obsession with having babies as if they were toy dogs. Now even Lindsey can be a mother as long as she remembers to plug in her iCub before going out on the town…
