I am tired of watching the annoying blame game. One in six Americans are impoverished and all we can do is feed the advertising machine on talk radio and cable news networks. Often I write about great inventions that save lives, or whimsical technological “pet-tricks” that makes us marvel at the genius of humanity. Today I am transfixed on the fact that there are people starving in America, a country that created the modern world and robotics. If we can launch a robot to space, certainly we can solve hunger in our own backyards.
I think great lessons can be learned from “game play.” Let’s turn the clocks back to a simpler time, 1964, when Marvin Glass created Rock’em Sock’em Robots. The game is still sold under Mattel. As you watch the original commercial, see the kids excitement when he learns he can keep fighting even though his “block is knocked off”. This is an encouraging metaphor for our time. Next month Dream Works will be releasing a movie called, Real Steel, based upon this game from yesteryear. I will wait to give you my movie review in October, but Hugh Jackman is ready to join “Red Rocker” in the ring.
Let’s take a moment and do something human for a change. While we continue to fight the fight, let’s remember to help our neighbor by making a donation to Feeding America.
