Are Robot Pets A Good Investment?

There is a lot of talk about cutting the deficit.  Harry Reid may have to give up his annual Cowboy Poetry Festivals and DARPA may have to sacrifice pet robots.  Yes the military has been investing BIG money into BIG DOGS.

In the past few weeks, we have reviewed many excellent robotic inventions, such as VIPeR, PackBot and the MVF-5.  Each of these have great merits as they are focused on removing humans from danger.  Boston Dynamics believes that their robot, BigDog, is the future of battle for the US Military.  BigDog is essentially a glorified million dollar mule capable of carrying 340 lbs in any terrain and climate.  This DARPA-funded quadruped is a luxury among battle armaments, up there with gold-plated Humvee.  The government’s infatuation with robotic animals does not stop with canines, as Boston Dynamics is currently working on an “animal-like running robot called Cheetah” which is due to arrive in 16 months.

I guess if BigDog falls on the government chopping block, David Letterman can always reserve a spot on Stupid Pet Tricks.
